ACK Media Acquires Amar Chitra Katha And Tinkle For Monetization Across Media

By Nikhil Pahwa - Wed 21 Nov 2007 09:32 AM PST

ACK Media has announced the acquisition of a controlling stake in Amar Chitra Katha, Tinkle, Tinkle Digest and Double Digest from India Book House. Founded by Samir Patil and Shripal Morakhia, the company will monetize the library content across print, DVDs, online services, mobile, games, TV and film. ACK Media plans to launch Amar Chitra Katha Illustrated classics, the Tinkle family of Magazines, the ACK Online Store, Tinkleonline.com and a set of proprietary characters. Anant Pai, the creator of the Amar Chitra Katha series will remain the Editor Emeritus and Chief Story Teller for ACK Media, while Samir Patil will be the CEO of the company. While no terms of the deal have been released, this acquisition is interesting in the context of Geodesic’s acquisition of the Chandamama series, and indeed, Virgin Comics’ strategy of creating orginal content to monetize across formats. With time, we’ll see more content being acquired for repurposing and porting across multiple formats. I’m rather surprised that Disney (NYSE: DIS) hasn’t picked up something, though from what we’ve heard, they were interested in Chandamama.

I guess they are gonna make animation movies around it or get into digitising that data and patenting it to further sell that database...just a wild guess

I hope they put some content online.
I Hardly find any good sites devoted to Indian children, except for http://www.indianchild.com/ and http://www.pitara.com

Forget Disney. Let the Indian comics legends remain in Indian control.

i would agree to vani. we really need some indian stuff for our younger generation , instead of all of them falling off to the YO generation.
