Airtel Conducts 3G Trials In Three Metros

By Cerius Shah - Wed 02 Apr 2008 01:47 PM PST

Airtel has tested 3G applications with various equipment suppliers in Delhi, Mumbai and Banglore on trial spectrum says ET. Airtel currently runs a 3G service in Seychelles and has a license to run 3G in Guernsey and SriLanka. We had earlier reported spectrum allocation being delayed to 2008 year end as Defense had still not vacated the 45Mhz required to start off. The DoT has decided to auction spectrum but I doubt all operators have been allocated spectrum to conduct trials. Considering the roll-out obligations and only 25MhZ of allocation in the initial hand-out, it seems a pre-determined conclusion that the auction will favour a chosen few.
