IndianTelevision.com: The Anil Dhirubhai Ambani Group (ADAG)’s DTH venture Bluemagic has been given a letter of intent (LoI) by the Information & Broacasting (I&B) Ministry. The LoI is expected to be followed up with a letter of approval and a DTH Licence. The DTH venture, Bluemagic, is a subsidiary of Reliance Energy. It seems that the lack of a foreign partner simplified operations.
Business Standard: adds that Bluemagic is one of ADAG’s ventures for content delivery - they’re already working on IPTV, and have stakes in Adlabs (movie theatres) and Synergy Communications (TV production). Their ADAG’s radio venture is about to go live, and they have tied up with Ramgopal Verma for producing films.
Rumour has it that a gaming venture is in the works too, and lets not forget Reliance Infocomm. To me, the ADAG looks like it’s creating a content ecosystem of its own - from production to delivery. Is this becoming a possible target for “antitrust” proceedings, or will cross-company holdings help? It seems rather strange to me that Bluemagic is a Reliance Energy subsidiary, and not a Reliance Communications or a Reliance Infocomm subsidiary.

Sahad adds: ADAG group has appointed Sunil Khanna, former CEO of Zee Telefilms’ DTH venture, Dish TV,- as the head of its DTH business, reports The Economic Times. The announcement is likely to be made shortly. Khanna is one of the pioneering execs in the Indian DTH industry.
