Another Cricket Site Launched: This One From Zee News

By Nikhil Pahwa - Fri 02 Mar 2007 12:46 AM PST

With the Cricket World Cup just nine days away, Zee News Ltd has taken the covers off a cricket news site - Zeecric.com, reports Indiantelevision.com. The site will feature ball by ball commentary, and the usual stats and live scorecard, as well as news and stats related to cricket. So what’s new? They’ve got quite a few former cricketers, mostly Indian, on board to write columns for them. So what’s new? I’m just wondering why no one is really trying to do things differently here. Why not a cricket website in Hindi or any other local language? Zee News is a Hindi channel, so makes sense in differentiating the content, especially since they’re likely to cross-promote their content here. The site’s got advertisers on board, all right - Maruti has a top banner, and there are google ads. Maruti seems to be betting big on the Internet for World Cup advertising, it seems - they’ve already bought out most of the inventory on the world cup official website, apparently for $1 million.

    Check Cricstock. http://www.cricstock.com
It is sort of a stock exchange for cricketers. Not directly associated with the WC w.r.t score updation etc, but nevertheless it is a different idea.
(I have no connection with the site)
(I feel you should reduce the length of the word in the Captcha you are using.)

xyz: if the content is similar, and content from one co can be substituted for content from the other - distribution takes over. For ketchup and indeed coke and pepsi, distribution is key.
On the Internet, where distribution is not an issue - content and marketing (SEM, banners, alliances) become key.
In a market where others have a head start in marketing - cricinfo and cricketnext - I think differentiation of content is important for Zeecric, though you may not agree…

Check out http://whatsthescore.in for a site dedicated to just Cricket Scores, without all the usual noise. It has a cool Widget that you can install on your desktop for live cricket scores.
