BSE-listed BAG Films & Media, which launched a Hindi news channel News 24 in December, targeting “Young Adults”, has - oddly enough - launched an English news site to supplement the channel, reports Agencyfaqs. They say they’ll add Hindi content to the site soon. There is video content - Windows Media, not flash- and with text content (mostly from wire service PTI) around the video. News 24 launched with a digital archiving system that can store up to 5000 hours of content, and allows journalists to uplink recordings instantly. They’re also targeting all delivery platforms for their content - cable, DTH, IPTV, mobile TV and online streaming of video content - I guess they’ll realise soon enough that online video streaming is an expensive proposition. There are blogs by journalists, and a food blog is also planned. The channel also plans to allow users to upload videos on the site. The site has been created by BAG Convergence, which will develop Internet and Mobile properties for other channels that the company plans to launch. This move is similar to that by TV18, which consolidated its web and mobile properties into Web18, which it plans to list, NDTV - which formed NDTV Convergence - and UTV, which formed UTV Interactive.
