Reliance ADA Group’s social networking site BigAdda has released some stats on usage on it’s site. The stats:
-- The site claims to have 1.24 million users, adding 12,000-15,000 a day, and is targeting 10 million users by 2010
-- India’s top 20 cities accounting for 50 percent of users.
-- 40 percent users are from Tier 2 cities, while 10 percent from countries like Sri Lanka, Pakistan, US, UK and also Dubai in the UAE.
-- 78 percent of the users are between 16-27 yrs
-- 78 percent of the males and 28 percent females are from schools & colleges
-- 44 percent of the working users are working in IT, Finance and Services, and 15 percent in Manufacturing and Media
-- 40 percent of users consume videos and share them – create their own mash-ups thereby initiating comments /discussions and their by networking
-- 57 percent of the users have created their photo galleries
-- There are 15000 Addas (communities)
I tried to confirm the user base at the site, and it appears BigAdda member search only displays 1000 members at a time—25 users per page, over 40 pages. Thus, no way of confirming the user base on the, so take these numbers with a caveat that we haven’t been able to verify them. 1.24 million users has been achieved in less than six months, though it’s not that the growth has been word-of-mouth alone: it’s been supported by mass media and online advertising: with billboards on the street and advertisements on TV. Orkut, via word of mouth (and probably negative coverage in the press), some believe, has already crossed 10 million users in India (6.5 million users was mentioned by former Google (NSDQ: GOOG) India country manager Ashish Kashyap at a conference in June last year). In August last year, Reliance Entertainment President Rajesh Sawhney had told us that the site had 100,000 users (then), and was targeting to break even in three years.
