BigFlicks.com Goes Retail

By Rafat Ali - Wed 20 Feb 2008 12:45 AM PST

[by Cerius Shah] BigFlicks.com has announced its offline plans. Previous to this, the prime contender to the Indian Netflix (NSDQ: NFLX) model had started with a Download-to-own online only variant, which by what we hear of the download stats has been doing decent business. Bigflicks will now distribute its library of 14000 VCD & DVD titles through its rental stores in Mumbai, Delhi, Pune, Hyderabad, Bangalore and Chandigarh. According to the press release, offline orders can be placed through Bigflicks.com as well and they expect their store tally to touch 500 by end of this fiscal with RWorld stores bringing in the support with 100+ shops in top 10 cities across the country.

Being an excel ninja, I did a comparison between Bigflicks and Seventymm’s payment model (based on the same offer set of 2 dvds at one time (unlimited). Bigflicks trumps them on basis of cost and delivery times, although Seventymm boasts of 15,000 titles (also, they have added Xbox games to the mix.)

We had earlier reported on rumours of BigFlicks planning a buyout of SeventyMM which has received $2 million from Draper Fisher Jurvetson, and $7 million subsequently from Matrix Partners India.

Nikhil adds: This is just the official announcement; we’d reported on the offline plans earlier, last year.

    Hi,

I do not see any reason to compare bigflicks with Netflicks. I am a Bigflicks customer having a lot of problems with Bigflicks.  I was a Netflicks user when I was in US. I was thinking of that kind of service from bigflicks. I think you better compare it with a DVD store in your locality other than that bigflicks is not doing any good job. Very poort customer care and service. I registered one month back and so far I have received only one DVD. The DVDs that are shown on the website are all not availabile in the invenstory. Guys and gals pls do think again before registering yourself in Bigflicks.

One example is blockbusters uk. which retails them and you can post them back to the place in a day. There are memberships etc to support the system.
