Buongiorno To Launch Mobile Content Store Blinko Gold In India

By Nikhil Pahwa - Mon 07 Apr 2008 04:59 AM PST

Buongiorno (BIT: BNG) is getting set to roll out Blinko Gold, its premium digital store in India this month. Blinko Gold will allow consumers to download mobile entertainment content. The release also states that the CRM will “analyse service provisions and track end-user behaviour”, and I wonder if there’s mobile advertising involved somewhere. Last month, Buongiorno has announced plans to launch Fashion Fix, a mobile video magazine in India. The company has over 75 employees in India, and operates out of New Delhi.

Blinko has been at the center of some controversy in the US: the company was sued in November last year, by the Florida Attorney General, for deceptive marketing practices...the company was, allegedly, targeting children with ads on websites offering free ringtones and hiding the “by signing up for a $10 monthly subscription” in fine print or on a separate page. The companys response here.

The Mobile content store is an extremely attractive idea. Users need to get 3GPP or MP4 content converted from the standard MPEG-2 or Video CD ( MPEG-1) formats. This can be quite time consuming.
The other alternative is to download it from ( generally) slow websites.
