Business Standard Launches Hindi News Portal

By Nikhil Pahwa - Fri 28 Mar 2008 12:12 AM PST

Business Standard, the financial daily which has recently launched Hindi and Gujarati editions, has now launched its Hindi website: http://www.bshindi.com, reports Agencyfaqs. Though the content on the site is in Hindi, most of the banner advertisements are in English. Arun Natesh, head of Marketing for BS told Agencyfaqs that the co is offering news sourced from wires - Reuters (NSDQ: RTRSY), Bloomberg and PTI. There’s a section for regional news as well, and in the future, they intend to introduce a Hindi e-paper, Hindi blogs (once font issues are resolved), financial tools and newsletters.

There are some differences between the BSHindi and Business Standard websites: in terms of content layout, in the top half of the page, the Hindi site has top stories down the middle, whereas the English version has content across sites. I found content discovery much easier on the Hindi site...but it remains to be seen what will happen once they start getting more advertising. The Hindi site doesn’t have search (hence, there’s an opportunity there for the likes of Raftaar and Guruji, or maybe even Rediff). It also appears that Archival content on the Hindi site is free, unlike the English site.
