CDI Sells IP Rights Of Animated Character To Golden Games For $1.65 Million

By Nikhil Pahwa - Wed 28 May 2008 12:58 AM PST

BSE listed Animation outsourcing company Compact Disc India (CDI) has informed the stock exchange that they’ve sold the IP rights to an animated character “Joker” (via Hindu) to Singapore based Golden Games Pte. Ltd. Golden Games will pay $1.65 million (Rs. 7.10 crore) for developing and publishing Online, Mobile, PC and Console games.

Looks like CDI is going to focus primarily on animation. They’ve recently received an “In Principle” approval from a foreign bank to fund $30 million for “Playing with the Enemy”, a co-production with Whitelight Entertainment (the producers of Jurassic Park, Minority Report, Schinders List etc). “Playing with the Enemy” is expected to be released in the first quarter of next year, and has an estimated revenue of $318.20 million, with profits of around $121 million. In that context, why sell the IP of a character, instead of developing it yourself?
