Chandamama Plans Portal

By Nikhil Pahwa - Wed 10 Oct 2007 10:41 PM PST

Chandamama, the 60 year old childrens publication which was acquired by Geodesic Information Systems earlier this year, appears to be going down the Virgin Comics path. The company is also in talks with animation studios, and is creating a story cell for writing scripts that can be used for animated films and tv shows...no wonder Disney (NYSE: DIS) had shown interest in the company. All the content will be uploaded online, and the online edition will be made into a portal, reports Business Standard. The current website seems rather archaic, and has a pretty flaky subscription system. Chandamama has also done some work for satellite radio station WorldSpace, as well as a radio play on the folklore of Bikram and Vetaal. They’re looking to extensively leverage their content bank, and are also in talks with mobile firms.
