Did Former Yahoo MD Zacharias and US Management Not See Eye To Eye?

Businessweek’s Bruce Einhorn voices his scepticism on the reason for Yahoo India’s Managing Director George Zacharias’ exit after merely a year and a half at the helm. Zacharias said he was leaving to start a tech firm, which will be unveiled in a few weeks. Despite Zacharias praise for Yahoo India’s “well-oiled and strong leadership team” and comments that the decision to leave was “a tough one,” Einhorn writes that the timing does certainly raise questions about whether Zacharias and Yahoo management back in the U.S. didn’t see eye to eye on where the company should be going in India.
He quotes our very own Nikhil [see related liinks]to illustrate that Zacharias projection for India’s ad revenue to double this year was no big deal and essentially meant it would keep pace with the market. “With Yahoo struggling in the U.S. to compete with Google, and with India one market where growth is just now taking off, maybe Jerry Yang is looking for something a bit better from the Indian operation,” says Einhorn.
