DoT Begins Spectrum Allocation; MTNL Launches Lost Mobile Tracking Service

--- The DoT has begun allocation of start-up spectrum to new GSM entrants. Videocon-promoted Datacom, Idea Cellular, Unitech, Swan Telecom and Ruias-owned Loop Telecom have been given start-up 4.4 MHz GSM spectrum in the Tamil Nadu circle reports ET. It appears to be trying to please all new entrants, allocating spectrum only in those areas where its possible to give it to all license holders simultaneously. Last week of spectrum action saw the DoT allocating start-up CDMA spectrum to Shyam Telecom in 12 circles.

--- MTNL has launched a lost mobile tracking service as a free downloadable application with the service being priced at Rs 30 a month. The app, currently supported by 250 handset models, alerts the user of the phone being stolen by sending the no. of the new SIM as an SMS or an email to the original owner.
