If you cannot beat ‘em, join ‘em.
While Indian music company T-Series sent a legal notice to Google regarding the presence of copyrighted content on its video-sharing Web site YouTube, U.K.-listed bollywood producer Eros International has joined hands with YouTube. Eros announced a tie-up with YouTube on Monday for a revenue-sharing channel showcasing some content from its catalogue of 1,300 films. Movie trailers, music videos and other exclusive footage from Eros’ library can be accessed via http://www.youtube.com/erosentertainment.
In a press release, Eros’ chairman and chief executive Kishore Lulla, said the partnership with YouTube will generate advertising revenue. Lulla told British daily Telegraph he expects the YouTube channel to generate at least 30 million viewings in its first six months.
In the past year, Eros, whose releases last year included the Sanjay Dutt comedy sequel ‘Lage Raho Munnabhai’ and whose forthcoming flicks include the Amitabh Bachchan starrer ‘Cheeni Kum,’ has been zealous in expanding its digital distribution business. Eros’ audio tracks are already available on online music stores iTunes and Real Rhapsody.
Nikhil adds: It’ll be interesting to see what the YouTube does with Eros’ content already uploaded by users, or even full movies on Google Video (here’s Lage Raho Munnabhai). As per a source from the movie business, Google has offered up to 80 percent revenue-share to some Bollywood content owners.
