Google India’s Head Of Content To Join Mobile Co Aryty

By Nikhil Pahwa - Mon 31 Mar 2008 08:52 PM PST

ContentSutra had learned that Harbinder Narula, formerly the Head of Content for Google (NSDQ: GOOG) India has put in his papers, and will be joining Aryty, to set up their India and Middle East operations. We contacted Narula, and he has confirmed the move: he will be joining as VP (India & Middle East), and will be operating out of Delhi. Narula will first set up Aryty’s India office. Narula was with Google for over 2 years, prior to which he was the Head of Voice business for Indiatimes.

But what does Aryty do? It allows transfer of airtime between users - for example, a call made from the US to India may be more expensive than one made from India to the US. This has applicability in a market like India which has a large expatriate population. Aryty currently services the Philippines market. At Google India, Narula was particularly involved in deals for YouTube with Bollywood producers, including UTV, Rajshri, Yash Raj Films, among others. At FICCI Frames last week, Narula had mentioned that YouTube traffic from India had grown by 1000 percent, particularly since the integration with Orkut.
