Incredible India On YouTube; The Risk For YouTube

By Nikhil Pahwa - Mon 13 Aug 2007 08:44 PM PST

The Ministry of Tourism has tied up with YouTube to host 18 promotional films, reports DNA. The Incredible India channel is hosted here. Strangely enough, the “India” account was created on “December 15, 2005”, though the videos have only been added over the last week. So far, the channel has 15 subscribers, 138 videos have been watched, there are 15 subscribers and 2653 channel views.

Earlier, film companies Eros and Tips have hosted promotional channels on YouTube - just another way for them to get as much visibility as possible. Frankly, I think Google will have to be careful of the amount of promotional content they allow on the site; it’s one thing to host channels, but if promotions start taking up too much space on search results, people will eventually switch from YouTube to less cluttered sites.

The advent you tube has become a boon of sorts for promoting brand, thoughts and ideas in this era of web 2.0.
i tend to disagree with nikhil on his opinion that Google should keep tab and filter promotional ads. why?
    1. i have seen some of the most creative ads in you tube which are never shown in Indian television. these ads have helped me a lot in understanding the creative angle and thought provoking ideas of people all across the globe.
    2. i have seen new companies showcasing their technologies with very interesting ad campaigns. one must understand that these start up companies are handicapped with very frugal marketing budget and hence make maximum use of the web 2.0 techology ,which i dont is wrong in any sense.

but i do agree to a certain degree that Google should filter the activities in You tube. why cant Google put up a mechanism which prevents adult content being uploaded ? why cant Google prevent extremely violent and graphical videos of unpleasant videos being uploaded? eg: beheading of hostages in iraq, beheading of women in Saudi Arabia over adultery issues?.. etc..
if these kind of videos are screened and removed then You Tube would be cleaner and much less cluttered. wouldn’t u agree, Mr Nikhil?
