Jump Games To Develop Games On Manchester United

By Nikhil Pahwa - Thu 24 Jan 2008 09:21 PM PST

Well, this is a big deal all right: Jump Games, a Reliance Entertainment company, has acquired the exclusive global rights for developing games for football club Manchester United (ManUtd). The company will develop six ManUtd games during 2008, the first of which is called ‘Manchester United Word It!’. In Europe, it will be priced between three and five Euros, and around three UK Pounds. There’s an announcement expected on the deal today in India.

A couple of years ago, Tech Mahindra got rights for UEFA mobile content. Exclusive rights to content tend to be expensive, and there’s no mention of how much the deal is worth, and the duration of the deal (whether limited to six games or a particular time period). However, Manchester United is among the most popular football clubs worldwide, so Jump Games is probably banking on global distribution of the games—the acquisition of such premium content might also help the company gain entry into newer markets, and gain acceptance in Europe. Despite a considerable following that football has in India, there’s not much in the Indian markets for Jump Games, or other gaming companies.
