Mauj Gets Mobile Content Rights To Ram Gopal Verma Ki Aag

By Nikhil Pahwa - Fri 17 Aug 2007 03:45 AM PST

Mauj has tied up with Ram Gopal Verma and Adlabs Films for mobile content for the Bollywood film Ram Gopal Verma Ki Aag, reports Indiainfoline. Mauj will create customized downloads - ringtones, wallpapers and games. They’ve created two games The First Attack and The Last Chase using Java and BREW. Mauj had earlier created content for another Ram Gopal Verma film - Sarkar. Mauj seems to be banking on Bollywood for content - they had tied up with film production company Eros for exclusive rights to content, with a minimum guarantee for exclusive rights to content. What kind of an ROI do companies get on exclusive content...is it viable?

Carriers give about 30% to 40% (except reliance which gives paltry 10% to 12%) to the game supplier (publisher, aggregator, developer). So, if a game sells for Rs 50 a pop - they get about Rs 18 or so. Ringtone and wallpapers are separate… selling for Rs 7 to Rs 10 a download. How much companies earn depends largely on the success of the movie and promotion of the mobile content and its positioning on the game decks. Mauj has lost a lot of money in similar deals in the past ...with KANK I believe they coughed up 1.5cr for exclusive rights and earned only about 90Lakhs, losing a large chunk. I guess they’ve become wise with their new deals and probably / may not offer MGs.
