By Anupama Chandrasekaran - Thu 04 Oct 2007 08:46 PM PST

Mobile value-added-services provider Mauj Mobile launched Gita Shloka Service with 108 shlokas or prayers at a subscription rate of Rs. 30 a month for Airtel subscribers. [via indiantelevision.com]

Mobile Users can opt for their favourite shloka to set as their background music, ringtone, caller tune or alarm alert. Also, god-fearing subscribers can choose to send the shlokas as a voice or a text SMS.

The company is planning a three-phase roll out, where each phase will target a different lingual market. The first phase will have the shlokas recited in Sanskrit followed by their meaning in Hindi, the second phase will focus on English speakers with the meaning explained in English. In the third phase the shlokas will be made available in various regional languages, including Marathi, Tamil, Telegu, Kannada, Gujarati, Oriya, Bhojpuri and Punjabi.

    @VAS GUY:

    Nobifusion was the first one in india to launch it

    http://mobifusion.com/newsdetails.html#gita

    and mobiQuran has done it some time back
    they were moderate success. not a market changing idea. Spiritual content is in public domain so anyone can develop audio clip of anything aarti, gayatri manta and jadu tona and they can sell it for half to other operators . i wonder how would they handel that ?

    @Nikhil : This 30 Rs/Month is not clear .  is it for unlimited playback from a IVR . where you need to call a specific number and they will paly it for you.  or is it by unlimited playback from a devie resident clip . wher eyou need a media player on device .  IVR seems suitable for them as handset dependecy will be nil .
