Mobile ESPN Finalizes Operator Tie-Ups For World Cup

By Nikhil Pahwa - Tue 13 Feb 2007 07:48 PM PST

Mobile ESPN has finalized deals with Hutch, Airtel, MTNL and BSNL for a launch around the Cricket World Cup, reports Mint (subscription required). They’re planning to allow users to hear live commentary (Rs.6 per minute), watch video clips and participate in programmes via the mobile. For voice, commentary is going to be in Hindi and English. Deals with Tata Indicom and Reliance are also in the offing, according to ESPN’s New Media Head Sricharan Iyengar
Last year, Airtel and Reliance had launched subscription packs. World Cup coverage might attract premium pricing, but wont the ICC expect its pound of flesh?

    Amit,
You will soon have the option of buying a monthly Voice plan which will allow you one month access to all sports on the Mobile ESPN voice portal at Rs 99 pm. The service is currently under testing with various operators and hopefully should be up by month end.
Right now, you can hear all the stuff available on Mobile ESPN at Rs 6 per minute on 5053776 on Airtel, Hutch, & Idea and on 1255537 on BSNL and MTNL. I know that sounds steep, but thats the existing premium voice services rate on all Telcos. BSNL and MTNL are at Rs. 2.40 per minute though,
    Regards, Sricharan Iyengar, ESPN
