Mobile TV Revenues Currently Weak, Costs High - Sony Pictures Entertainment

By Anupama Chandrasekaran - Tue 04 Sep 2007 01:57 AM PST

There’s not much money in the mobile TV business for now, according to Sony Pictures Entertainment (SPE) Networks Asia’s General Manager Ricky Ow. [via Indiantelevision.com] SPE’s AXN channel offers customised short form mobile versions of shows like The Amazing Race. But its Animax channel will have long form programming for mobile, which means that viewers can catch up on episodes they have missed on the mobile. However, mobile content has to be reasonably priced to be popular and for that content and airtime cost has to go down, Ow said. “There is no point in having low priced content if the airtime cost to download the content is high.”
