MySpace Eyes India

By Nikhil Pahwa - Tue 16 Oct 2007 02:02 AM PST

I’d heard murmurs of MySpace’s India plans a few days ago - that there’s an announcement of India plans due by the end of the month - and we were in the process of getting more information. Now FT (via MSNBC) reports that MySpace is looking to expand by launching “locally targeted sites” in Brazil, India, Poland and Russia over the next four months.  I just checked and MySpace.in is taken. Travis Katz, head of MySpace’s says that the new sites could initially be loss-making, and other companies having a head start is a cause for concern. It’s not that Indians are unfamiliar with MySpace, so I wonder what they’ll do differently. The report suggests that MySpace is considering local language sites...a Hindi social network? You think that will work?
