NDTVProfit.com Gets A New Look

By Nikhil Pahwa - Mon 28 Jan 2008 09:30 PM PST

[by Cerius Shah] NDTV Convergence has relaunched NDTVProfit.com, the online version of its business news channel. According to this note by Sanjay Trehan, CEO, NDTV Convergence, the site aims to be “an online personal finance manager with news you can use.”

They have their anchors posting columns and an autoplay video to the right. I signed up for the Portfolio tracker but hit a road block on the level 2 page, couldn’t input the name of the portfolio, seems to be an issue with the site rendering on Firefox. The site, which is currently in beta, has a QnA section along with a dedicated helpline for users.

Nikhil adds: How much thought is really given to usability? Autoplay videos leech my 256kbps connection. Of course, NDTV isn’t the only one subjecting us to videos without asking us to opt-in: Nautanki.tv and MSN’s Desktop TV are (were?) worse - they’d autostart after a gap, even if you paused them. Also - what’s happened to Moneycontrol.com? With every visit, one is hit with a truckload of users-be-damned popups and soshkeles.

    Hi Nikhil,

nautanki.tv allows its publishers to opt for an autoplay or a click to play option. 95% of the publishers opt for the autoplay option. There are really no answers to what is better. We respect the choice of the publishers by giving them the option of how they want to monetize their traffic.

    Cheers

    Sunil,

What about bandwidth detection w/ auto-play enabled only for...say.....500 kbps+ connections?
Wouldn’t something like that help your publishers monetize better(by providing a service that adjusts itself to the consumer situation)?
