Number Portability Recommendations By End Of Month

By Cerius Shah - Tue 18 Mar 2008 09:50 AM PST

Respite for those who have been tolerating their service providers in hope of retaining their numbers. The second coming is near. TRAI has said it will submit recommendations for MNP (mobile number portability) by end of this month or first week of April. According to this ET report, the recommendations will also outline the roadmap for users under life-time schemes to switch providers.

Industry word had it that TRAI was delaying MNP until Reliance entered the GSM market. Now that licenses have been issued, it does seem suspiciously co-incidental. Not that GSM players have been bathing in milk considering allegations by new entrants that the recent slew of cases are a delaying tactic.
