Rajshri Media Launches Tamil Content

By Nikhil Pahwa - Mon 21 Jan 2008 10:04 PM PST

Video content portal Rajshri Media has added Tamil films and TV shows to its bouquet of content. The service was launched on Jan 14th, around the festive season of Pongal. Some of the movies on the site include Kandukondein Kandukondein, Thirumalai and Muthu.

TV Shows include Buddha Jatakam, Theekkul Viral and the Tamil version of Mahabharata - Mahabharatam. Most movies are offered for download at $4.99 for standard quality and $9.99 for premium quality, though not in India. Interesting to see Rajshri target the regional language market. Rajshri Media has TV content from NDTV, Star TV, Zee, Times Now and Zoom, apart from movies from several movie production houses. They are, however, competing with a bunch of sites streaming Indian film content illegally, and the P2P networks. Apart from these, Rajshri is also competing with Reliance’s BigFlicks, and GV Films, which has a web streaming division. Rajshri is expected to launch 3 minute mobisodes by the end of this month. Important to keep in mind that Rajshri is targeting the International market, and downloads are not permitted in India; the streaming of movies is difficult on existing broadband connections here anyway.

Update: Preetam Mukherjee informs us in the comments that GV Films’ site http://gvtamilfilms.com isn’t traceable anymore. I just checked at their other site http://telugupictures.com/ greets visitors with the following notice: “In an effort to improve the performance, speed, and reliability of our services and support, we are upgrading our server environment. Technical team is working diligently to get our site back online.”
