Reliance Launches Expensive Mobile Radio Service

By Nikhil Pahwa - Thu 21 Jun 2007 05:58 AM PST

Well, it’s expensive at a subscription charge of Rs 30 per month for Re 1 min of radio, Rs 3 per minute without subscription. Reliance’s pricing makes even Tata Indicom’s charges of Rs. 50 a month look inexpensive. I’m not sure of who’s going to listen to radio at this price, when there are handsets that have FM receivers built in.
However, there are some things in favor of Reliance mobile radio: content is available in Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, Malayalam, Marathi, Gujarati and Punjabi; Users can create playlists, can skip songs or replay them - so it’s more like a jukebox. The company has plans to offer regional content as well. But the cost is a dampener.
