[by Cerius Shah] The iconic magazine that launched Hunter S Thompson, P.J. O’Rourke and Tom Wolfe amongst others is coming to Indian stands on the 27th of Feb. According to the subscription plan here (20 - 15% discount if subscribed via the net) the mag will have a newstand price of Rs 100. The India landing page is Rollingstone-india.com, which has of all things, junk characters and a pr0n links! Someone needs to put up a new homepage. http://www.rollingstone-india.com/subscription/subscription.asp does work. Rollingstoneindia.com and Rollingstone.in have been previously parked by domain squatters. The official address is registered by the editor of Mansworld, Radhakrishnan Nair, MW.com is the publisher for the mag. They also have a group on Facebook with with 817 members.

An FDI limit of 26% in news based mags is causing an influx of non-news and non-current affairs publications that can have 100% equity. Besides Rollingstone, 2008 has already seen the launch of FHM and previous years have seen the likes of Timeout, Scientific American, Good Housekeeping, Vogue and Maxim launching successfully as well. According to this Mint story, out of 26 titles due to be launched this last year, 13 will be were international.

Mags like Record, Rave and almost all youth targeted products like JLT and JAM have a had an overview of the Rock and Metal scene in India, the entry of the king of counter-culture is sure to thrust some much needed focus on the cover-lover infected music scene in India. MW.Com is backed by Indian industrialist Anand Mahindra and his wife, Anuradha Mahindra, who will serve as editor-in-chief of Rolling Stone India.
