Shemaroo And B4U Provide Content To Tinselvision; Non-Exclusive Content As A Differentiator

By Nikhil Pahwa - Sun 25 Nov 2007 09:16 PM PST

After a tie-up with Yash Raj Films, video-on-demand startup Tinselvision has inked a distribution deal with Shemaroo Entertainment. The deal gives Tinselvision non-exclusive rights to distribute around 100 films (including Naya Daur, Dhamaal and Manorama Six Feet Under) from Shemaroo’s catalog of over 1000 films. [via release]

Business of Cinema adds that TinselVision has also struck a deal with B4U Networks to offer 500 hours of Indian and Bollywood music videos and programming from B4U Music. I think we need a little more clarity on this particular deal: I wonder if B4U, essentially a Bollywood music channel, has online rights for music videos, apart from TV rights. Tinselvision will also host a show called Inside Tinsel, which will be hosted by TV host Mini Mathur, and will feature Bollywood gossip and news, and behind the scenes content. For this Tinselvision has signed a 13 episode deal for the show with Camrera art. More here. Readers should bear in mind that these are primarily non-exclusive deals and content owners/distributors can tie-up with other such ventures; the bouquet of content as a differentiator won’t last very long...as Jump TV is probably finding out.
