STAR India Adds MyIris.com, Zoom, The Sun And NatGeo To PLUS

By Nikhil Pahwa - Fri 23 Nov 2007 11:03 PM PST

I don’t know how STAR India’s mobile application PLUS is doing, but they’re certainly getting more content on board - Indiantelevision reports that STAR has tied up with UKs The Sun for lifestyle content, financial portal MyIris.com, Times Group TV entertainment channel Zoom TV (for news, animations, wallpapers and program guide), and National Geographic Channel for “animal ring tones”. STAR had launched PLUS earlier this year with the goal of becoming the de-facto mobile application for access to content, trying to play down the STAR association, in the hope that they would get third party content on board. That hasn’t quite happened since rival ZEE has launched its own mobile offerings. In that context, STAR has finally managed to get third party content on board, with its association with National Geographic and Zoom. Question is: has STAR got this content because they have the users, or because NatGeo or Zoom have no plans for their own application? STAR has advertised its application extensively, across TV. There’s nothing on whether the deals are exclusive, but I would be surprised if they were: exclusive content is far too expensive.
