Tata Indicom Launches Mobile Portal In Hindi

By Nikhil Pahwa - Wed 10 Oct 2007 05:11 AM PST

A fairly significant move, which makes content on the mobile more accessible to the masses: CDMA operator Tata Indicom has launched Tata Zone, a BREW based content portal in local language Hindi. The portal offers a catalogue of applications, instructions and pricing, with content like ringtones, games wallpapers, and information related to News, Bollywood, Cricket, Astrology etc. The rationale behind his move is obvious - a majority of the Indian population speaks Hindi, and Indicom is targeting those users. Pankaj Sethi, President (VAS) for Tata Teleservices says that the service will widen the reach of data services. Readers must bear in mind that the content will be available only to those Tata Indicom users who have enabled Hindi as their preferred language. [via release]

    Very profound !
The possibilities are endless. Local News, information about commodity prices, train/bus timings, health tips, tips about farming etc. etc. can be made available.
