Tata Sky Adds Four Channels To Introductory Package; Free Games Too

Should this be seen as a defensive or an offensive move (or both)? Tata Sky has beefed up its Introductory Package of Rs.200 with the addition of four new regional channels - Star Ananda, DD Chandana, DD Gujarati and DD Punjabi. They’ve also been quite “Active” - Interactive features like Active Newsroom, Active Khabar, Active Star News and an on-screen guide had been introduced earlier. Now, Active Games has been added to the basket, with Aliens, Trance, Solitaire, Cubix, Bug Blaster and Speed Spell.
Active Games doesn’t look too great to me. Even those without PC’s and the Internet have more gaming options with the cheap Nintendo-clones available freely in the grey market. If want to leverage gaming, they need to do better than this.
As for the regional channels, wouldn’t they be better off offering different, targeted programming for different states? That’s what makes the cable operators preferable in most parts - they can customize their offerings.
