Trying Out The Unlocked iPhone In India

So the iPhone is available in India...I tried out two yesterday (one in pic on the right). The phone connects to Indian GSM networks (both Airtel and Voda-Essar worked), and one can send and receive text messages. The buyer claims that unlocked phone was bought off Ebay US, and shipped to India. Total cost for each phone was $500 (around Rs. 20,000). The phone works both with WiFi and GPRS, though I found typing messages a bit irritating. One change that Apple (NSDQ: AAPL) should make is allow the keypad to realign when the phone is held horizontally; I wasn’t too impressed with the battery life. Another issue was copying contacts from older phones. The photo on the right was taken with my N95 (review), which costs around Rs. 10,000 more than the iPhone.
P.s.: there was a hacked iPhone at the PCUK launch party as well. We also have a seminar, “iPhone And Beyond: The Content Opportunities” on Sep 20 at Landmark Theater in LA.

I just saw a iphone in mumbai unlocked version in fact i made a video of the same its a cool device the piece i saw was a 4 gb and and one who was planing to buy it said he paid a bomb for it and around 4 grand for the unlocking software itself.
I am in Gurgaon and I just got one 2 days back and just hacked it this morning. Using it with Airtel...works great.

$500 ie rs 19,575 cool........more than 7000 bucks less than d n93 and more than 8000 bucks less than d n95.......
I have been a mac user for years now and a major apple fan but iPhone turned out to be such a fiasco.If apple treats india as a 3rd grade market (which is rather stupid) then let them be. I really wanted an iPhone but changed my mind. O2, HTC are just as good or better.
