TV Roundup:  NewsX, E24 Launch, TRAI Releases Consultation Paper on TRP’s

By Cerius Shah - Fri 28 Mar 2008 12:35 PM PST

Two new TV launches marked the end of the week, NewsX, the channel which had more coverage coming from the inner rather than the outer world, was launched on March 27. Karan Thapar’s company ITV (LSE: ITV) is the Editorial Advisor for NewsX while Arup Ghosh is its newsroom’s head. This marks the launch of the third channel from the 9x stable, the roster now boasts of a GEC and a music channel. Although currently not available across all cable operators in Bombay, I managed to grab instances of a few feeds captured by friends and am quite impressed with the look and feel. The logo is part of the ticker unit, giving the content a lot more real estate on the screen and a cleaner look compared to the over cluttered CNN IBN and NDTV 24x7. Another new launch was that of E24, the entertainment channel from BAG films, which has also launched News24 and Dhamaal 24 recently.

TRAI has released its consultation paper on TRP’s and has asked stakeholders to send in comments by April 21st. According to the press release, the TRAI is currently debating whether there should be Government intervention in regulating the system of Television Rating Points (TRP).
