Webdunia Introduces Multi-lingual Ads

By Cerius Shah - Wed 14 May 2008 12:20 PM PST

Webdunia, the local languages portal from the Naidunia group, has launched ads in 9 languages. What the release doesn’t state is the kind of ads. Incase you are thinking of a multi-lingual contextual ads, think again, its classifieds. A natural extension, considering the Indore based portal offers content in the same number of flavours. What this does however is tap the non-existent multi-lingual classifieds market currently occupied by the Anglicized likes of JustDial, Kijiji and Sulekha amongst others. Unfortunately, the only language I can read on the site is Hindi, so I wouldn’t be able to judge if content is localized according to the language. If that is indeed the case, it makes sense to have multi-lingual classifieds to serve a community. For the teeming masses, the local newspaper’s classified section still remains the best option in terms of reaching a large lingual demographic.
