Yatra.com Clocks Sales Of $5 Million A Month, To Break Even By End-2008

By Sahad PV - Fri 23 Mar 2007 06:04 AM PST

Ok, here are some details on travel portal Yatra.com revenues. The company claims monthly revenues of $5 million, and a volume of 2,500 tickets and 150 rooms a day. The company expects to break even by end of 2008, according to a company official.
In contrast, market leader MakeMyTrip.com is doing revenues of about $10 million a month. But Yatra is the latest entrant into the market by launching its services only mid-last year. So the numbers look good, from that perspective.
“We have posted an average revenue of $5 million a month with a volume of 2,500 tickets and 150 rooms a day. The company expects to break even by the end of 2008,” Nikhil Rungta, head of marketing, Yatra Online Pvt Ltd, told Financial Express.
Meanwhile, Yatra has announced a tie-up with Reliance Web World outlets for booking hotel rooms. Reliance Capital is an investor in the company, so that would have helped in clinching the deal with Reliance Web World, which will earn a commission from the bookings made out of the outlets. The pilot has been launched in 48 centres in three cities, initially--- Kolkata, Mumbai and Bangalore. The outlets will have a travel desk to handle this part of the business.

lol, 2,500 tickets and 150 rooms a day is over exaggerated !.,

With $ 5 million a month and min of 2% margin the company must be earning at least $1.2 million a year i.e. Rs 5.2 Crores (assuming no growth from here onwards). Do they really have so much of opex, that it will take them 2 years to break even, given that they are an online company with no physical presence. Numbers look exaggerated. Any thoughts ?

Yes the numbers look really exaggerated..

Im sure they dont have offline presence..

when are these guys gonna learn from jobsites?? ( minus the one that claims that they get 20K CVs per day...lol [:p] )

Doing press release with unbeleivable numbers is gonna question the credibility of the organisation. Tommorow , even if they do USD 5 Million, nobody is gonna beleive that and gonna continue assuming that its actually 1/100th of what they claim…

Readers - you should try out http://www.ixigo.com for a smarter, smoother travel search experience.

We are currently the fastest, most comprehensive (14 Airlines, 3 OTAs) and most unbiased travel search engine in the Indian market.

We can confidently claim to have the cheapest fares on any given sector on any given date since between the airlines and OTAs we show fares from, we are bound to found the cheapest options for you within a few seconds.

We show all prices with taxes included, and we dont claim to sell any 99 Rs. tickets because we want consumers to know the absolute price that hits their pockets.

Finally - try it once, and tell us if any other portal can match our prices, speed or usability, for flights.

ixigo, everything is fine in your site, but whatz the reason behind that domain, an i on the right corner of the keyboard with the x on the bottom left end of the keyboard makes the domain user unfriendly .

Whatz also the reason for you to name the files as “.ixi”

  • From prasath Sat 07 Jul 2007 01:36 AM

    Also you say:
“Finally - try it once, and tell us if any other portal can match our prices, speed or usability, for flights.”
but i believe the content on this site is also taken from YATRA, makemytrip etc?,
How long will these content last? and how can you say you have best price when you take content from other sites, isnt it contradicting?

  • From iXiGO Travel Search Sat 07 Jul 2007 09:45 AM

@prasath: All content is fresh and comes directly from airlines and OTAs - the probability of a price mismatch is lower than 0.01% and we work hard to ensure our search algorithm is smart enough to keep that level.

we thought that alternating keys on two different ends of the keyboard make domains more user-friendly since we type with two hands grin

.ixi - it’s our own xhtml format

    Happy searching,
    iXiGO

to the person pimping ixigo here: aside of the fact that you’re a meta search - we don’t look kindly upon you spamming our comments section. You’re impeding discussions - a would rather that you stop doing that.

  • From iXiGO Travel Search Mon 16 Jul 2007 10:05 PM

Sure Nikhil - wont happen again - but what happened to freedom of speech ?

Or, like the real spammers, do we need to mask ourselves behind someone’s name and make the comment appear a more qualified neutral opinion ?

I guess you should turn moderation on dude.

  • From Nikhil Pahwa Mon 16 Jul 2007 11:48 PM

No we won’t have comment moderation, but we’ve now taken call on site pimping, whether masked or not. your discussion with prasath notwithstanding, such a practice takes away from discussions on blogs. spam is spam, and this is not the only post on CS site were you’ve done this.

Yatra is terrible for its customer support...... It is highly unlikely to ever do an IPO, if its customer support sucks.

I have personally lost more than Rs 1 lakh in Yatra.com - which is primarily their mistake....and the company talking about Rs 2 crore and other investment is growing only by cheating its customers and not returning the monies.

Its despicable management starts from the top - to the very low level employees, who have refused to refund after fighting after several days.

I am sure the company will not go anywhere, with this approach.

    grt website

  • From Apartments Tue 15 Apr 2008 10:31 PM

I also think that the numbers given on this article here may be too high. But it might be possible as Yatra have lots of big partners to support and expand its services like they mentioned here Reliance Capital and others. The site do have good reach to most of the people around the country. So might be possible! Haven’t used Yatra so can’t say about the support team.
