Indian Animation Companies Seeking Co-Production Deals

CIOL: Indian animation companies are now seeking co-production deals with international studios to boost their earnings. The $310 million industry in India, which had till now focused on outsourced deals, may become a $1.3 billion opportunity on the back of the co-production deals.. “Creative co-production gives greater control and ownership and it takes the companies up the value chain,” Sunil Mehta, vice-president of National Association of Software and Service Companies (Nasscom), told CIOL. Apparently outsourcing model may not be that lucrative since co-production has the potential to yield “multiple sources of revenue from merchandising to licensing”.
