NDTV Media-MSN India Look To Other Sites For Desktop TV

By Nikhil Pahwa - Tue 26 Sep 2006 04:09 PM PST

We’d broken the story last year about NDTV Media selling online advertising spots on MSN India’s Desktop TV. Now, they’re looking at other sites for displaying Desktop TV, reports exchange4media. Exchange4media is one of the sites where the application is currently being showcased for advertisers to see.
The advertisement starts instaneously, runs on narrowband and does not require buffering. It’s not hosted on the publishers site, so doesn’t cost the publisher any bandwidth.
There are two rates for primetime and non-primetime spots, varying from Rs. 750 to Rs. 1000 for 10 seconds. Charges are based on time, not clickthroughs.
NDTV Media has 260 advertisers, targeting 1000 advertisers by 2008. The biggest are “the Bollywod guys”. NDTV Media and MSN are also considering putting Desktop TV on MSN’s regional language portals.
There’s also Interactive Avenues which is marketing Google’s click-to-play ads on Indian portals. Desktop TV ads, however, start automatically, which I feel is obtrusive and will probably not leave a favourable impression on those visiting the sites.
