PayPal To Set Up Development Centre In Chennai; Hiring Hundreds Of Tech Pros

By Sahad PV - Thu 11 Jan 2007 08:36 AM PST

The highly successful online payment company PayPal is setting up shop in India. The company is establishing up a development centre in Chennai and plans to recruit hundreds of technology professionals to man the centre. PayPal vice president and general manager of global product development Raj Sundaresan said that the company has started accepting resumes from experienced applicants, who can apply for positions by sending resumes to .
They are looking at talent in product development, software engineering and other IT functions.
It’s not clear if PayPal will start providing online payment solutions in India - as in direct tie-ups with Indian banks for fund transfer and so on. That could be the next step.

I really wish Paypal would quickly establish funds transfer capabilities to Indian banks.

There are many 1000s (perhaps 10s of thousands) of web developers, freelancers, online marketers, etc based in India who accept payment via Paypal.

The only way to withdraw funds from Paypal into India is to request a check - which Paypal kindly sends by ordinary (non-registered) post!!!

Given the pathetic state of the Indian postal system, there is absolutely no guarantee that such checks will ever be received. In fact, there are many complaints of non-receipt of Paypal checks - and then the Paypal account holder has to go into a long loop with Paypal to recover his money. In the meantime, if someone has banked the check and withdrawn the funds, the beneficiary loses the money.

At the very least, Paypal could have an option to courier the check to the Indian beneficiary, after deducting courier charges. That would save a ton of problems.

    Best…

I would suggest Paypal to allow Indian users to use their bank account to veryfy thier paypal account instead of a Credit card which is mandatory in Today’s Indian customers. Whereas , American customers can verify their paypal account usning their bank account. This is discriminatory in nature. And, all payapl users don’t have Credit Card.
