Trademark Caution From Sky(UK); Trouble for Tata Sky?

By Nikhil Pahwa - Tue 08 Aug 2006 08:08 AM PST

Updated: Corrigendum below.
First, Dish TV pre-empted the Tata Sky launch with a roll out of digital value added services backed by an aggressive advertising campaign. Now, British Sky Broadcasting Group has issued a caution notice, carried in today’s Times of India (Delhi):

Notice is hereby given that BSKYB claims all rights to the above trademarks including in respect of diverse goods and services including in particular cable services including broadcasting and direct to home (DTH) services in India and reserves the right to initiate appropriate legal action against any person found using the aforesaid trade mark(s) or any other trade mark(s) which is similar.

Looks like rough weather for Tata Sky, and not unexpected: I’m sure Sky (and every other broadcasting company in the world) is eyeing India. You may read the entire caution notice, here.
And how about suggesting some alternative names for Tata Sky?
Corrigendum: Looks like I made a mistake. Thanks for pointing it out Sandeep: BSkyB does have something to do with Tata Sky, and this is probably just a copyright notice.
